After experiencing 'mpv' I will never go back to MPlayerX. Yoo-hoo Elmedia is now natively compatible with Apple M1-powered. It supports more formats than QuickTime out of the box, without the need for any plugins. It is highly configurable if you don't mind reading the docs and editing a config file. Elmedia is a video player for Mac with a full set of features to modify playback, stream, watch video with or without subtitles and listen to audio. MPlayerX is an expression of why Macs are Macs - it just works. Even today, some media players make you buy the most popular codecs before they will work properly. I remember all the struggles to get certain kinds of media to play in a Mac, and it was a real headache.
